Soil and groundwater contamination has become a major environmental concern in the modern society. Contaminants such as heavy metal and organic compounds in soil and groundwater can enter the food chain and drinking water supplies, thus posing a serious threat to human health and ecological systems. Developing countries such as China are particularly vulnerable to such contamination, due to its fast industrialization pace and weak environmental stewardship. Recently, emerging economies like China has started to recognize the seriousness of the issue. China in particular is taking ambitious actions to address soil and groundwater contamination.
The Tsinghua Forum on Environmental Remediation is being organized by Tsinghua University and Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences. It aims to promote the communication and sharing of experience and lessons in soil and groundwater remediation and contaminated site management, among researchers, practitioners, and policy makers, from both China and in the international community. The Tsinghua Forum also aims to build a state-of-the-art communication platform that integrates theory-technology-application-transformation-management in soil and groundwater area. The 2ndTsinghua Forum on Environmental Remediation will be held in Beijing, China, from 3 to 5 May 2019. We would like to extend our earnest welcome to you for participating the Tsinghua Forum.
